About This Spot

Stepping into Lazy Lizard on Church Street feels like slipping into a slower, gentler rhythm — the kind of laid-back spot where the hum of conversation blends seamlessly with the clink of coffee cups and the soft creak of well-loved wooden chairs. It’s a place where time seems to stretch a little, inviting you to linger over moments rather than meals. The atmosphere is warm and unpretentious, touched by an intimacy that only comes from a space cherished by locals and travellers alike.

Here, the day unfolds at an easy pace, whether you arrive for a morning pick-me-up or an afternoon reprieve. It’s the kind of place where the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the sweet promise of homemade cakes easily coax you to take a breath and settle in. There’s a quiet charm in the way the menu captures the heart of the Karoo, folding small local touches into familiar comforts — from hearty lamb dishes to lighter bites like fresh fruit bowls or scrambled eggs served with a side of simple goodness. The drinks, from smooth cappuccinos to refreshing homemade lemonade with mint, serve as a thoughtful counterpoint to the gentle heat of the day.

Lazy Lizard’s appeal extends beyond its plates and cups. The interior carries echoes of another era, where antiques and handcrafted details create a cozy backdrop and invite quiet reflection between bites. It’s a setting that sparks both nostalgia and connection, making it easy to feel at home while still sensing the presence of a wider world just outside its doors. Whether you’re fresh from a drive through the nearby Swartberg pass or wandering the streets of Prince Albert, this spot offers a grounding moment — a place where hospitality is subtle, genuine, and unhurried.

In many ways, the charm of Lazy Lizard lies in its ability to bring people together around simple pleasures. It’s a quiet celebration of local flavors and stories, punctuated by friendly smiles and the soft murmur of good company. A visit here doesn’t just fill your stomach; it reminds you to appreciate the small details, the human touch, and the gentle joy of slowing down.

The lamb chops were really amazing, perfectly cooked and tasty. The side was a lot of different choice of vegetables plain/ boiled on top of a delicious broth. I also enjoyed the pea soup but it was a little bit too thick for my taste. The fresh juice was delicious and the smoothie as well. The price of everything was very reasonable, definitely recommend this place.

Whether you prefer carrot cake, cheesecake or apple tart, the Lady Lizard got you covered. All three of the above mentioned are legendary and travellers come from far to indulge their senses. Very tasty coffee too.

Went here for a lunch after our Swartberg pass drive. Very friendly service and tasty food. We ordered the lamb pie and a spinach/feta quiche, both with a salad and chips on the side and some gravy for the pie. Good portions and very tasty as well as the homemade lemonade. Nice little place which also sells some local products + hand made souvenirs. Recommended

I recently had the privilege of visiting Prince Albert on an artist retreat and was delighted by the Lazy Lizard. The atmosphere was inviting and the antiques reminded me of a time when quality was polished and refined. I enjoyed the refreshing lemon sorbet and for the taste that enjoys contrasting flavours, a cappuccino can be recommended. I hope to visit again and will definitely book a room as the guest rooms looked most appealing.

Plenty of table options and good service. Meals and drinks seems very pricey - R59 for a bottled beer!?

Lazy lizard is a wonderful spot in Prince Albert - great snacks and mains (the pizza and Mexican health bowl was delish), ice cold beers on tap and a peaceful garden to sit outside and enjoy the ambiance The staff and owners are wonderful and very friendly! I’ll be back each time I stop in Prince Albert

What an incredible local gem. This spot not only has delicious food and a wonderful laidback atmosphere but also the kindest staff who helped me after a mountain biking accident! There was such a sense of community at the Lazy Lizzard and in the little town in general!

Great place to stop for those on the road, especially with kids or international traveler’s looking for local food experience and/or gifts to buy. Food is of high quality and big portions. If you do sit outside in summer, use something for mosquitos and some parts of the playground might be too hot to play on.
